Adopt a Low Carbon Diet and Help Curb Further Global Climate Change

(NaturalNews) For decades, people have begun to choose vegan and vegetarian diets over more resource-consuming standard diets. The last ten years have also given rise to an additional type of earth-conscious eater: the raw vegan. People choose these diets for health, environmental, animal rights, and also spiritual reasons. Now we sit on the threshold of a new global issue that requires our awareness and action: rapidly arising global climate change. We can help to combat this change with our dietary choices. The newest diet to directly address this issue is increasingly known as the "Low Carbon Diet."

Our diet is one of the largest causes of greenhouse gas emissions

Some estimates predict that one third of our greenhouse gas emissions comes from our food and agriculture industries (1).

"Non-negotiable" by Heather Havey

"Non-Negotiable" by Heather Havey, M.A.

Our bodies and our planet are filled with poisons, so I teach my clients to live by "The Nature Way." What that means is ORGANIC, NATURAL, WHOLE, RAW, LOCAL, and SEASONAL. It means keep life simple and close to nature. Grow your own food if you feel so inclined. Make your home a sacred space of natural beauty. Allow all the elements of Earth to heal and nourish you: sunlight, fresh air, fresh water, earth and her incredible plants, and God.

This is serious, people. What I hear from most people is endless, endless excuses. "I can't afford to be healthy...I don't have enough time...It's too hard..." Endless excuses and complaints.

But I have a lesson that has helped me so much in my own life. No more excuses. Create a list of non-negotiables for your life. For example, here are some non-negotiables that I have established for my own life:

  • I only eat organic food. I do not want to eat poison, have poison in my body, or support a way of farming that poisons the land, animals, plants, insects, and kills most life that ingests or touches it.
  • I only eat vegan food. I do not want to support torture of animals.
  • I eat 90% raw food. Some people would accuse me of making excuses for not being 100% raw, but I have found over the years that I prefer a diet that is 90-100% raw. In winter months, I drink warm teas and love warm broths. Other than that, I am raw.
  • I deserve health and my choices will reflect that.
This is really all about balance, because I am also not trying to encourage militant extremism. An ideal approach is one in which you make solid, confident choices and you believe in yourself. Keep an open mind, consider alternatives, and when you make healthy choices, be strong in those decisions. The "non-negotiable" idea helped me to follow through and not slide and slip and make so many excuses for why I could not follow through with things I was passionate about in my life.

So, grab a pen and paper and list for yourself those things you are deeply passionate about that you would like to consider "non-negotiables" in your life. Again, not to be a militant or rigid extremist. I do not mean this at all. Be fluid, be flexible, but be strong and passionate in your choices and actions - not wimpy.

In my opinion, the choice to eat only organic food is the most important choice for your diet. Pesticide is designed to kill, and it just keeps on killing. And killing. And killing. For generations.

Happy New Year

Text of this ecard written by Heather Havey, as a prayer for you all:
May we experience delight, joy, astonishment, mystery, & beauty, for these fill hearts with peace. these are gifts & examples of nature - God as form.

May we experience love & care -
these are gifts & examples of essence - God as formless.

Earth is a mirror of God; so are you.

May we listen to rivers, thank oceans, learn from animals, play with dogs, swim with fishes, serve birds, behold wilderness, feel wind, plant trees, grow food, watch life grow, replace lawn with wildflower & garden habitats, honor organic, choose no poison, build bat & bee homes, encounter willdness, remember the miracles & beauty of all forms, & enjoy the silence that designs & guides it all.
All life is sacred, including you.

"10 Ways to Eat Healthy on a Budget" by Heather Havey, M.A.

"10 Ways to Eat Healthy on a Budget" by Heather Havey, M.A.

1. Grow your own organic food. Seeds are very affordable. Simply takes a bit of prep, water, sunlight, and TLC. The joy of harvesting food that you grew yourself is priceless, will bring you great joy, and can change your life. Watching these plants grow can bring you peace, gratitude, and awe. Feeding yourself, friends, and loved ones will also bring you great joy.

2. Buy organic from local farmers. Food that has been shipped around the country or world is more expensive than food grown in your own town. Also, by supporting local organic farmers, you are supporting a healthier world (no poisons), and you are not supporting the destructive corporatization of the bigger farms. Huge companies typically care about profit and growth; consideration of your health is an afterthought, if a thought at all.

3. Buy seasonal produce. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains that are in season, are cheaper to buy.

4. Drink more water. People spend a LOT of money on sodas, alcohol, coffee, tea, and so on. Drink more water. Also, do not buy bottled water. Drink water purified from your own faucet or well. Also, you can easily grow camomile, peppermint, lavender, and other herbs to make your own tea with.

5. Buy bulk. You will save money by not buying quantities of foods with no need for packaging materials.

6. Prepare your own food rather than eating our or buying prepackaged meals. This always saves money. Also, typically your own homemade meals will be significantly healthier than any canned, jarred, packaged, processed, altered, or restaurant foods (though some restaurants can be very healthy).

7. Be a grazer. Rather than prepare elaborate and expensive meals, eat simply. Make a simple salad. Eat a cucumber, sliced. Eat a piece of fruit. Make a simple fruit salad. Make a simple soup. If you have fruit trees in your yard, you can eat those fruits for a snack. Be a grazer, of natural foods.

8. Eat less: when you feel hungry, sometimes all you need is a big glass of water. Americans eat far too much food!!! Eat smaller quantities of more nutritious food.

9. Organize potluck dinners or picnics with friends...and enjoy them out in nature.

10. If you see a particular sale on an item, eat that for the day or week.

What To Do With Your Leftover Food - by Heather Havey, M.A.

What To Do With Your Leftover Food by Heather Havey, M.A.

When you eat, firstly and most importantly, EAT ORGANIC FOOD. This is EXTREMELY important, because any other choice is filled with some degree of poison. In some cases, up to 30 or more poisons are used on a single crop!!! In my opinion, eating a conventional vegetarian or vegan diet (one that is not organic), is JUST as dangerous for your health, if not more so, than eating meat and dairy and lots of processed foods.

Secondly, what should you do with your leftover ORGANIC food? =)

The answer is Simple, and Wonderful!

YOUR LEFTOVER FOOD CAN FEED EITHER THE SOIL OR THE ANIMALS.

Birds love to eat seeds, breads, anything made with flour, chunks of fruit or nuts, pasta, and so on.

Squirrels also love nuts, seeds, and vegetables.

If you dump food, do it away from your house, because rats and mice and other animals ALSO love food remains, so you don't want those lingering around and digging holes under your house...simply because it can cause challenges for you in a garden or even with plumbing or electrical if they get into walls or dig under the house.

Throw food remains into nearby woods, if that is an option.

Also, if you compost, simply throw the food remains into your compost bin. Then the micro-organisms and insects will help you to build healthy, new soil for use in your garden.

It's really quite wonderful to consider how you can feed and support local wildlife and health of your own soil, simply by giving all your food remains back to nature.

Aloha; have a blessed day, Heather Havey

Send your friends uplifting and beautiful ecards.
